Lions Head Trail Cleanup
Love our trails partners up with Cape Union Mart to host its 33rd Trail Cleanup and is calling for all trail lovers to join.
Blake Dyason hosted the first trail cleanup on Platteklip Gorge on Mandela Day 2015 after noticing a large amount of graffiti on the rocks and litter scattered across the trail.
Since then Love our trails has hosted 32 trail cleanups on Platteklip Gorge and Lions Head, Signal Hill picking up over 2 tons of letter.
Dyason says he is grateful for the support and enthusiasm from the trial community to keep our trails clean, he says that over 1100 volunteers have joined these cleanups since 2015, not only making an environmental difference by leaving the mountain better than we found it but they have generated a huge amount of awareness online, education other trail uses and leading by example. Since the first trail cleanup in 2015 we have seen an increase in companies, hiking clubs and individuals hosting regular trail cleanups.
Love our trails is host the next cleanup at Lions Head on Sunday 5 November 2023.
The trails are getting busier as the weather improves and tourists season starts for Cape Town. Dyason says we want to make sure our trails are clean for all trail uses to enjoy nature and to set a standard that will prevent other visitors from littering.
From experience we have seen that a clean trail stays clean for longer.
Giving back couldn’t be funner, than spending a morning on the mountain with like minded people. Love our trails has partnered up with Cape Union Mart for this cleanup and will provide all volunteers with gloves and bags.
SANParks will dispose of all the waste we bring down the mountain.
